WHEAT YIELD IS EXPECTED TO BE HIGH THIS YEAR

13 May 2008

Tashkent: In early April, the Agricultural Division of Muruvvat-Teks FSV, finished planting a 5,540 hectares area with grain crops - 5,471 were sown with wheat. In spite of the complicated weather conditions which have occurred as a result of abnormally low ambient winter temperatures and low spring water levels, company specialists expect the wheat harvest be over 20,000 tons.

Given the timely and appropriate preliminary land reclamation and rehabilitation of the irrigation system in Muruvvat-Teks’s agricultural area plus the use of updated cropping technologies, they expect the wheat yield to reach 36-37 centners a hectare. By comparison, the 2007 wheat yield was 24 centners a hectare.

Muruvvat-Teks’s agricultural projects include growing cotton, grains and vegetables in the Syr Darya, Dzhizak and Tashkent regions of Uzbekistan.
